Hi all,
Hope your week has been a good one so far.
Last week, Dan Proft invited me onto his “Counterculture” podcast for American Greatness. Proft has been one of my earliest supporters, giving me generous airtime on his Chicago's Morning Answer radio show to promote my first feature-length documentary, How Jack Became Black. He was the first to promote “What Killed Michael Brown?”
He’s one of the most intelligent interviewers around and it was my pleasure to talk about my new short film, Killing America, with him and here is the youtube video:
The interest in the film remains massive. We are busy organizing screenings and there are many moving parts. Once we lock them down, you’ll be among the first to know. Also, we talking with a distributor with extensive experience, including an Oscar nomination under their belt, and we will keep you posted on that.
Initially, we thought that we would throw this film up online along with an article and that is why we’re slightly behind the ball, but it is a great problem to have since it means people are hungry for this. Christine Linnenbach, who heads Friends of Lowell Foundation to preserve merit-based admissions, said it perfectly when she said that “people want to see this film because it says everything that they’ve been saying in the privacy of their home but were too afraid to say out loud in public. It’s like letting the steam out of a pressure valve. And this is giving them the courage to speak out in public.” That is why we made the film. That, and to point to merit as our guiding light out of this racial quagmire. Restoring merit is the only answer here because it is the most American of all principles.
Lastly, many people were bothered by the comments by one of the winners at the Academy Awards:
Here is a screen grab of my reaction:
Here are two others:
This battle is far from over. The good thing is that people are losing their fear and have been pushing back. That’s what this country and the world needs.
All my best,
Eli
1. Hard to fathom the ignorance of Jonathan Glazer. Because of his weasel words hamas knives, bombs, bullets will bypass his weasel butt? The Oct 7 hamas murderers killed some of Israel's tenderest liberal citizens; teachers, medical workers, daycare workers, social workers - Israeli's, living near and striving for peace, with Gazans.
2. Eli, I wonder if some of your people might contact David Mamet's people. He is so aware of all the pressure points in film production and distribution. He seems to have a soft sport for independent films and esp. those with a genuine message. Just a thought. Cheers, Dex
