Thanks for using your platform and gift for words to share your experiences and logic. A lot of Jews (myself and family included) feel they need to ”permission” to be free thinkers. You give me courage and strength to do just that, and say it out loud. Please keep fighting the good fight! G-d bless.
For a long time, I have felt somewhat isolated in the American Jewish community because of my ardent refusal to align with the political “left.” But now, in my fifties, I no longer feel as alone as I once did. One thing that I believe has been very helpful in retrospect is that I have been involved with a local Chabad in my area for more than 20 years. There, I have been able to avoid the “progressive” politicization of the Reform and “Conservative” Judaism I was raised on. And the shock of the unforgiving political reality in the aftermath of October 7, 2023 has clearly led no small number of my coreligionists to move away from the current “left.” Perhaps the time has come for a more open discourse in the American Jewish community - and I am eager to do my part in this regard.
Batya a treasure of honesty and truth.
Dear Eli,
Thanks for writing this essay. I think you (Eddie and Batya) covered it all and said it well.
Thanks,
randy
