No limit on woke hypocrisy….and marxists suddenly rediscover capitalism even if it means abandoning their supposed principles. Bezos does what’s expedient…no shock but does not inspire any admiration on my part.
Baffling. I would imagine plutocrats like him would love the honesty and bravery of this film and your sophisticated, accurate, useful messaging about racism in the US.
What nobody on the left/poc/wokeworld landscape seems to realize is that this post-2020 world with thousands of billboards and advertisements saturated with black actors, every page on media streaming sites on black arts, black actors in Victorian TV shows, Black History Month on top of the other 11 months, grievance stories of black history (but no other history), the focus on black poverty/student success rates without bothering to analyze other groups of color/poor whites, black superbowls, all of this massive barrage of blackness since George Floyd so innocently wandered the streets of MN, to have his face posted all over NY, Oakland, SF, Berkeley as some kind of model for kids...all of this is turning the country to the right.
If there was, (was there? I see lots of poc on 1970s shows) indeed a dearth of nonwhites on TV, its surely been corrected in the last five years. How about a Filipino or Afghan-American actor ?
And anyway, it does nothing to address ongoing inequalities that may exist for (some) African Americans. And it ignores the fact that perhaps, just perhaps, if we shut up about this endless yawn of perpetual racism, all groups might move forward in the US based on their own abilities and efforts, something which, given their past, African-Americans have clearly a great deal of.
Great article, Eli! Jeff Bezos has no real principles. He’s a robber baron who sees which way the wind blows in other words what position will make him the most money, and takes it. He didn’t truly care about the black community when he said what he said five years ago and he’s doesn’t mean what he says now about the opinion section in the WaPo all of a sudden becoming about free markets and individual freedom. Oh so now the opinion column is right-wing because Trump is President and the culture is shifting? But when being woke and social justicy was trendy it was left-wing? Come on Jeff, we see right threw this! You could care less about any of the things you claim to care about. Amazon censored the landmark documentary What Killed Michael Brown? because they were afraid it would hurt their business and the woke inquisitors would have their head on a platter for it. So in the name of profits NOT principles, they rejected and censored it. It just goes to show they believe in freedom-when it suits them. When it might hurt their bottom line they all of a sudden don’t care about freedom or black voices anymore. How interesting! This change to the Washington Post is nothing to celebrate. They are still a disgrace to journalism. Instead I would recommend to everyone actually objective and impartial news sources like The Free Press, Tangle News, 1440, C-Span, Ground News, Merit Street Media, and Public News. The WaPo is no longer the paper that published the top secret Pentagon Papers in the 1970s and went to the Supreme Court to get the right to publish them or the paper that Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein wrote their groundbreaking stories on the Watergate Scandal. That WaPo is long gone! Katharine Graham is rolling over in her grave at what they’ve become since then.
I think the real Bezos is the one we see now. Shame he wasn't bold enough to be his real self when it mattered viz a viz censoring of valuable films like "What Killed Michael Brown?"

Thank you for reminding us about Bezos and the blocking of your film.

Bezos is two-faced.
