I love reading your words! I also recently started volunteer work with a nonprofit that gives kids in the foster care system, in the most serious cases, a person dedicated to them for at least a year, to advocate for that child. In the South, I never thought my race would be an issue bc half the ppl I see in a day and most of our city leaders are not of my own race. I’m 42, and I thought I was immune from this race BS. That is a problem for β€œnon-southern” folks who underestimate other ppl based on skin color bc of inexperience. Then I hear a tragic story from another volunteer, assigned by the court to watch a child: a woman actually told her: β€œI don’t like you because you are white.” She did support BLM with displays in her house. On the up side, this woman clearly loves the child and was related to her. A win! Also, my fellow women volunteers of all races were pissed on her behalf. On the downside, I now suspect every black woman younger than 40 of possibly hating my guts. That wasn’t the case bf 2020. I hope you can change America with your work. You’ve certainly given me hope for the next generation. I want my boys to be fine, even if everyone puts them down all of the time…have got to figure out how to do that though. Tips welcome!

Joining you in your recovery. Too many mistakes to make against such a good team.

I thought you would find this an interesting read from today's Boston Globe:
